He just kept on fighting right through till the final siren. Volunteer of the Week: We have a number of amazing volunteers who put their hands up every week! Dave Dawes our Assistant Coach is at every single training session helping out with all the drills and you can always rely on him to give the boys a big rev up when they need it! Cam Lappin does Goal Umpire every week and when the league provide goal umpires, he’s always happy to help out with other jobs. Karley McCahon does lollies every week and is another parent who is always willing to help out in any other role required, except Goal Umpire because the kiwi doesn’t know the rules! Sam Bonaffini, Tarrant Gniel and Hunter Slama showed true grit and determination! They just did not stop running all game, they did everything we asked of them and as coaches we can’t ask for any more than that. Charlie Bennett shows great courage every week by constantly putting his body on the line. He is never afraid to tackle the biggest players and this has been his best season by far and we can’t wait to see what else he has to give us. Not just this game, but every week, Himi Schwalger impresses us all! He joined the Titan’s last season and has been playing up an age group. Considering he had never played before, he just gets better and better every week! In the two seasons he's been with us, we've heard him say about 3 words, but he always shows up and leaves with a smile on his face. Himi is one of the most loved players in our team and is truly valued by all his team mates. Jack "Jacko" Halder played his 100th game today and although we didn’t come away with the win, the boys made it their mission to get the ball to Jack for him to kick a goal on his 100th game and they fought with everything they had and after kicking 2 behinds, he got his goal in the last 30 seconds of the game! The boys staged a mutiny early on in the season and took control of the pump up music because apparently my 80’s rock was just terrible (way to make a guy feel old!) Today there was an unveiling of Tarrant’s new speaker which they were all pretty excited about. This season has been challenging for the U15 Green Team to say the least and to be able to see these kids get through to finals is amazing! But we would not have been able to get where we are without the help of our fill-in players from the U13 Blue, U14 Blue and U14 Green: Jameson McLardie, Zane Bergles-Brown, Cooper Murphy, Jayden Harry, Brodie Riddell, Hamish McLardie, Chris Van Greunen, Sam Waters, Declan Laidler, Patrick Cutts, Kayden Tate, Logan Tate, Ben Soderlund, Ryan Suhr, Liam Maillard, Ethan Smith, Blake Hamblin, Levi Fato. Thank you very much to all these kids who not only play two games nearly every week, but they are playing longer quarters and against kids twice their size! We’ve enjoyed countless fun moments, with the girls eagerly asking questions and thriving under the guidance of our beloved Assistant Coaches, Darcey and Hamish. . Darcey and Hamish are essential to our clubs success. They bring passion and expertise to every training session, with Darcey managing game strategy and Hamish leading the girls onto the field with enthusiasm. Their support has been crucial in helping the girls learn and grow in the game. Jess has been a wonderful mentor for both of these young players and has done a wonderful job of letting them take charge and lead with confidence. . We’ve celebrated several exciting milestones, including first goals, strong tackles, impressive marks, first games and even a 50th milestone. . Each girl has grown in confidence, and it’s been fantastic to see each round our nominated Captains lead the team in quarter time cheers, and our club song at the end of each game. Our recent game against Cranbourne highlighted just how much progress the girls have made, impressing coaches and families alike. . The girls couldn’t take the field without the incredible support from our Team Manager Nicole, First Aider Tamara, and all of the families taking turns in goal umpiring and bringing the fruit. Oh, and don’t forget Jess’s endless supply of sour lollies!! . Looking ahead, we are excited about next year as 8 x girls look to move up to our U12 team under Adam. They were Hudson Holmes and Bailey Nolc. Their non stop effort and commitment to the game was on point. They both gave their all, and made great contests with extreme accuracy and ball handling skills. Flynn Howard kicked the most goals today, 5 goals 1 point. The Under 16 Blue boys usually have their music pumping in the change room before a game, followed by warm ups ran by Troy. Once they hit the oval they are right into it, practising their kicking and hand balling. Before the starting siren they are left to themselves as a team in a huddle, and all you can hear from the sidelines is positive encouragement and fire-up banter!! A memorable play from the match was when Flynn Howard lead out from full forward, taking a diving/sliding mark from a great passage play from the back line, resulting in a goal. The whole team stood up and showed courage in the last quarter. The boys stuck with their processes, believed in themselves and showed the great Titans spirit which resulted in them coming out with the win at the end of the game!!! Our Volunteer of the Week Award is a little different this week, and is split between two amazing boys!! The volunteer award went to Calvin Michie and Troy Kovacevic. These two boys have come across to our club this season, and unfortunately both did their ACL, taking them out for a year. Each and every week Troy and Calvin show up to trainings and game days, supporting their fellow team mates and being involved as much as they can while they can't play. The boys have both taken on roles assisting Ian our coach with interchanges during the game. We started with something new for the season in having our first solo captain; Josh “The Flash” Ryan. The Flash gave us the best pep talk we have had the past 3 years… here’s how the conversation went. Coach: Josh, what would you like to say the team to inspire them? Captain: Not sure what to say. End of speech. It was really uplifting! That set the tone for one of the most exciting games of season! A brilliant contested game in the wintery conditions saw the Titans take more strides with their football. We played some modified rules with almost a full ground and use of the proper goal posts. The kids loved the experience again. We trialled some kids in some consistent positions and really saw them thrive. The wall down back led by 'The General' Chase Massa was fierce. Antonio and Laydo kept the tackle pressure up and got the clearances our way. Chase was reading the play and setting up position a kick in front of the ball and saved several goals from being kicked. Our mids faced a really tough contest against the Cougars and were made to win every ball. Loges and Josh worked the ball forward and Heath swept on every ball driving it forward. Zoe learnt to read the play in a new experience playing a kick behind the ball in zone and thrived. Our forwards worked hard against a super defense. Ethan was zippy as usual fighting to keep the ball alive and Dallas had a few chances to kick that elusive first goal. It’s definitely coming! Logan kicked a ripper goal to get us on the board. We had super plays across the game, switching Antonio to forward saw us get a magnificent goal, it was a bit Charlie Cameron like! That move put us back in front and didn’t Antonio love it…. His dance celebration a real highlight. Heath went back with the flight of the ball against two oncoming opposition players. COURAGE! Talking of courage, one of the Clyde Cougars attempted to bump our little rising superstar Zoe on the way to ball, it didn’t end up well for him as he bounced off her while Zoe just kept on running to collect the ball! To work hard, fall behind and come back and (unofficially) win by a solitary point was so awesome to see. After singing the Titans song with gusto we celebrated Angus's birthday with some delicious cupcakes (thanks Lisa). Too bad Tommy tried eating his with his mouth guard still in Our Players of the Day were: Heath - Great game for the little champ, he fought a hard game, his attempted mark with the flight was outstanding courage. Laydo - Leighton had another great game. Ball would not go past him in defense and when switched to the mid gave us lots of momentum forward. Our standout for the match however goes to Chase Massa- 'The General' had another blinder. More importantly saving goals for the team and using the ball with precision. A very special shout out to our Volunteer of the week Hayden Russell – A very welcome addition to the club this year, helping out each week as goal umpire and offering to do any additional work where possible. We are so incredibly proud of our Titan community, and super grateful to all those people and businesses that supported our event - those who volunteered their time, gave prizes for our raffle, donated services and activities for our event, braved the icy water and raised an incredible amount of money - the list really is endless of those that contributed to an amazing event! Volunteer of the Week: Mel Dennis is without a doubt a phenomenal volunteer, never misses anything and keeps us coaches organised. Today's game was a good old fashioned team effort, we had so many players stand up in a huge effort. Manny, Hudson, Tyson, Levi, Campbell, Max, Hayden, Jack, Marc, Riley were some of the standouts, with Marc kicking 2 goals. Tyson took some great intercept marks, Campbell laid some big tackles. Marc & Riley played on after big knocks. Max was given a defensive job on his 50th game and did his best for the team, and played a great game. When Aaliyah grabbed her jumper she just got dragged along for 10 meters before she couldn't hold on any longer. Player of the Match was Heath Khakh, he played a different role to normal as an inside mid! He was able to lock the ball in our forward line and create opportunities. Volunteer of the Week is Trevor Wood (Oakley’s Dad), this week like most he helped set up and pack up the ground. We really appreciate the work he does!! After leaking the first 2 goals of the game the boys kicked into gear hitting the scoreboard consistently thereafter, with goal kickers Archie, Riley, Asher, Xavier, Phoenix and Levi. This week more than most the boys used each other by hand and foot to create many chains in play resulting in set shot goals. One play that stands out was Xander Maguire winning a contested mark and his deft kick to Archie Daniells, he truly kicked from long range. Everyone showed levels of brilliance throughout the game and really showed us the true definition of working as a team! Jack Bellinger our captain kicked 3 goals out of the midfield. Our 2 small wingmen Marcell and Lennon were very courageous for small blokes and layed some good tackles. Max Fletcher who lined up at Full Forward kicked an amazing bicycle kick goal and took a couple of good marks. Mathew Foster also played well in the forward line. Our backs stood up really well and were under fire all day, Tyren who went back and played at centre half back played really well, as did our full back Christian. We did learn that our team is driven by the weather. When it's cold our team seem to be a little stand off-ish but when the sun comes out and their internal engines are warm they fight hard for the ball. Once the sun came out we saw some excellent passages of play from Chayce, Ovi, Kayden, Dylan, Hudson and many more. Our 2 goals for the match were kicked by Chayce: the team fought hard to get the ball to Chayce who kicked 2 great goals on the run. Tackle training has paid off as the team took it to the field this week with some great tackling from Dylan, Rhys and Blake. The whole team showed courage, as the fog cleared the team rallied and lifted and kept the opposition almost scoreless in the second half with our defence holding strong. There is always at least one moment of courage every week from Riley and this week was no exception. It's always a little daunting coming into a new team in round 6, and after recovering from injury Rhys has shown he has the courage and determination to be a part of the team and play passionately for the U12 Titan team. As a team manager and being my first year at the club, I tend to see things with fresh eyes. A funny moment for me on game day is seeing our coach and assistant coach, who are passionate fellas, get incredibly frustrated in Q1 as they couldn’t see their Titan team's great plays and kept asking each other "Who was that?" "Was that a Goal?" "Where is the Ball?" Repelled a number of opposition attacks today. . Volunteer of the Week: Scott Walton – A first year Parent at the Club who is always happy to put his hand up to do a job and will ask every week if there is anything needed. Which player/s kicked the most goals: Cooper ‘Sugar’ Kennedy kicked 3 goals . The wet weather made for tough conditions. Direction from the coach was to pick the football up in the wet conditions, not kick off the ground. Kade Seagrim picked up the ball during a contest, shot out a pass which resulted in the ball going forward and a goal was scored. . Who showed courage?: A number of the smaller players showed some real grit today when it counted. . Which player really played outside their comfort zone: There were three players who shone today, Emerson O’Dea, Nicholas Zakhem and Tyrell Monsurate. . A particularly memorable moment was when I turned around to give the Runner a message to send out, he’s standing near the fence with a bl**dy umbrella in his hand. I thought Mary Poppins had dropped in for a visit. Rest assured, he won’t be doing that again!! Not on my watch anyway. . He has shown great skills across the board and is improving in leaps and bounds. . Volunteer of the Week: Simon Jurgens This award has to go to Simon for his dedication to the team manager role, it's probably the hardest position to take on in a team and we all appreciate it. . Goal kickers: Jax 4, Rish 2, Tom 2, Nikolai 1. Great effort from all. The whole team showed some great heart going in hard for the ball and setting up some great plays with monster kicks. Really this was a team effort this week, the whole team dug deep and earned a great win. Even though we don’t keep score, the kids were giving updates at each break and knew we were in for our first "win" if they continued to play hard. It was an exciting week for us all. Game day award went to Archer Halder for his determination in defence and midfield pressure, he has come a long way since he started and loves being in the action on game day. A few mentions are: Nikolai for incredible marking skills throughout the game. Hugo, Zack, Archie and Hudson C for their defensive skills and midfield pressure throughout the game. The boys played as a team this week and it really showed. It was also great for the boys to put on their best performance for Mothers Day The team showed great team work and pressure throughout the game. The boys have come so far since the beginning and it's really exciting to see them start to form as a really great team in their first year. . All of our boys played to their best abilities and tried their hearts out but the opposition managed to mark the ball more consistently and displayed better control of the ground-balls which made a big difference on the scoreboard by the final siren. The Under 9s have displayed their willingness for the contest in both games this season and are definitely relishing the opportunity to apply modified tackles during the game. No backwards steps from the Under 9s Titans so far this season. Standing out were Ethan Edwards and Jordan Fraser, both displaying their leadership qualities throughout the game by both leading by example as well as communicating tactics clearly with their teammates. Ethan racked up the possessions at will across the midfield while Jordan always found a way to be first-at-the-ball when he was up in the forward line. Goals: Jordan Fraser 2 Ethan Edwards 1 Kyden Ellery 1 The entire Under 9s team have adjusted well to the addition of Modified Tackling over the off-season and never take a backward step when confronting an opposition player with the ball. A very tenacious side with a hunger to take on the ball-carrier. Special mention to Nathaniel Madzingira who is a welcome new addition to our Under 9s side this season injured his hand early in the second-quarter but was willing to return to the field to assist our depleted side. Quiet and unassuming...Nathaniel continued to gather possessions for the remainder of the game. Player of the Match: Kyden Ellery Kyden was the well-deserved winner of the ANZAC Medal awarded by the opposition team to the player who best exemplified the ANZAC Spirit on the day. Kyden is a very smart footballer who uses his natural Footy IQ to pick off intercept marks at will across the backline and midfield. Ky is always full of second efforts and chase down tackles harassing the opposition throughout the entire game. A player who never gives up a contest and has a tenacious appetite for the footy when it's in his area. Volunteer of the Week: Craig Cumming Although Craig does not have an official title in our Team he has been such a consistent presence at our Training sessions and on Game Days over Seasons 2023 and 2024. Craig has been found to be always willing to lend a hand with helping the coaches run drills, collect witches hats and help run mini-games during Friday Night Training sessions and always helps rally the boys in the warm-ups leading up to the siren on Sundays. Stepping up to U13’s is a new ball game and today we got a good feel for what Division 1 opposition is like. Our exact warm-up routine for the game is still being nutted out but something the players seem to have taken the initiative with is Crocs & Socks … mis-match colours optional but seemingly recommended. After winning the toss and electing to kick to the ‘Bostinis’ end, Langwarrin jumped us in the first quarter kicking 3.4 to no score. It was really pleasing to see the boys re-group and really turn things around in the second quarter. We kept them scoreless and got our first goal on the board, dominating play and showing our style of footy. We couldn’t quite maintain this level for the second half, eventually going down by 40 points. Final scores: Us: 3-2 – 20 Them: 8.12 - 60 Our new Captain Sam Carter was player of the match, leading from the front, getting plenty of the footy and laying some great tackles. Lachlan Dykes was impressive with his chasing and pressure. Jayden Harry played with desperation through the midfield and backline. Aayan Bhargava was everywhere, using his pace to win the footy. Highlight of the day came from Blake Ancilleri with a great individual effort that led to our first goal of the season. There were plenty of highlights and contributions from the rest of the team, well done to all. A past committee member, AusKick coordinator for 2 years, and coach of his son's team from U8s right through to now U16s, Ian's time with the Titans is filled with experience! He also played junior and senior footy at Rowville FNC, and 2 years of seniors at Bayswater FNC. Ian also represented both junior and senior teams in the EFNL. Ian recalls one of his most memorable (and embarrassing) senior footy games: "I was running with the flight of the ball into the opposition forward line, 20 metres clear of any opposition player. Just as I went to mark the ball, I tripped over my own feet landing face down in the mud with the ball landing just in front of my outstretched hands. The opposition full forward scooped up the ball (laughing to himself), and kicked the goal. "Wanting to rectify my embarrassing mistake I wanted to win the next centre bounce and kick it deep into the forward line, which I did. Only it was the wrong way. I kicked it straight to the opposition full forward. Who kicked another goal." . This season, Ian plans to help each player grow and develop their football knowledge and skill, not only individually but as a team. His youngest son is now in his 6th year of footy - impressive Having played throughout his school years for Haileybury and local clubs, Brenton's funniest footy memory is when playing at Geelong College one morning, and during a game a helicopter flew over the ground, throwing lollies and chocolates down at the players. Everyone stopped chasing the ball, and started chasing lollies instead! . Brenton brings plenty of experience to the U13 green team, and this season as coach he is hoping to see some overall improvement from every player, while having plenty of fun and learning new skills along the way. . Can't wait to watch what Brenton and the U13 Green team does for 2024!!! He then put his hand up to be head coach for the team, but Covid hit and the season got shut down. In 2021, Brett's daughter played for the U12s girls side and his youngest started his footy career with the Titans. This is the fourth season that Brett has coached his son's team, bringing his coaching career to a total of 6 years and counting - last year Brett was recognised for his achievements as a Titan and was given life membership at the club. . A Melbourne Demons supporter, Brett's favourite memory is when his oldest son Eddie kicked 3 goals in the last quarter of a game in 2018. It was just after Brett's father passed away, and every time Eddie kicked one he pointed to the sky. What a beautiful memory Brett, one we are sure you will never forget. . The last club Dave played at was St. Francis alongside Ryan “Carzy” Carswell and Daniel Johnston (both fellow Titan coaches), where he played "10 years too long, well past my body's expiration date" (we doubt it mate!). . Dave's funniest footy memory would be "Having to follow up on a bet I stupidly made at the start of last season with 14yr old kids, which resulted in them shaving my head after the Grand Final win. Note to self, don't make bets with teenagers! They’re ruthless!" . This season, Dave hopes to see the kids get out on the field and just have fun, while building some great friendships along the way. This lasted a few years before work got in the way (as it does - boo!). Mat has coached many of our Titan kids through Auskick for several years, and has helped with training over the years while work prevented him from being involved in coaching. He has also had experience in his younger years as a junior cricket coach, and many years being an armchair expert of the AFL (Mat's words - not ours!) . One of his funniest footy memories was playing school footy, and there was a guy who had migrated from Vietnam play his first ever game with them. When he took possession of the ball he just started to run flat out towards goal - as an opponent approached, he tucked the ball under his arm and put his fists up ready to fight. The other boy backed away, so he continued running, never bouncing the ball, he repeated the fists up approach a few more times before kicking a goal, which obviously wasn't allowed, but Mat and the team were all very much entertained! . The thing Mat is most passionate about is seeing every player realise their potential, to believe the best of themselves and to build a team culture of trust, encouragement, positivity and fun. Mat believes that footy is the most fun sport to play, and it should be fun. He also sees the opportunity to teach kids to challenge themselves to improve, to be better versions of themselves both as footballers and as young men. Ryan played juniors through to U18s and was actually coached by Wayne Webster at Interleague as an Under 14. He then played seniors after a short break, with St Francis Xavier FC, alongside the great Dave Bennett and the U10 assistant coach Daniel Johnstone, up until finally retiring at the end of 2023. This year Ryan hopes to achieve a smile on the kid's faces after every training session and every game. His goal is to foster a love for footy, create a strong team spirit and develop the player's skills to be the best they can be! We love Ryan's enthusiasm, and we wish him and the U10 Blue team a fun and successful season! Matt's daughter also played with the Club for a few years. Always involved and helping the coaches out when he could, Matt started as runner for his son's team when playing U12s and U13s. He then took on the coaching role at U14s, and has coached the team since. Matt played a few years as a junior at Pearcedale Baxter, but due to work commitments took a break, until returning to play for Parkdale Vultures in the Supers at 40. His funniest footy memory (funny now but not so funny then!), was during his first year back playing Supers. During the first practice match, going in hard into a contest, Matt ran into a bigger bloke than him (and that's saying something). Matt came off second best - broke his wrist and leg, and was out for 8 weeks. Ouch! This season with the U17 Blue team, Matt hopes to continue developing the boys as a team. He also wants to make the Grand Final and win, being the boys last junior year. They've made the prelims last 2 years and this year it's time to go that extra one. Quiny grew up in a town called Churchill where he played footy his whole life for the mighty Cougars. When they moved here, his son joined @auskick and Quiny became involved as one of the coaches, which thankfully has led on to his involvement with coaching the Titans. When asked what Quiny's funniest memory in football is: "Late in the 4th quarter of a game we were 3 points down and my teammate had a set shot in the goal square. I advised him to boot it as far as he could so that we’d be in front and the clock would run down (no time on). He booted the ball 50 meters past the goals into a paddock … but then we found out the scoreboard was wrong and we were still 3 points down, so needed another goal to win. Luckily we got the ball back, won it out of the middle, and kicked another goal before the siren." What a win! Quiny hopes to make Season 2024 all about the players. He plans to develop skills and confidence, encourage close team work, and focus on enjoying their footy. Quiny believes it’s up to the coach, the support staff, the parents and the club to do whatever they can to provide the best environment that gives the players this opportunity. What an absolute legend! Wayne played his junior years at Noble Park, and played one year of U18s at the Noble Park Seniors before a devastating knee injury. Unable to play football again, Wayne decided to try coaching. Lucky for us! Wayne has been coaching junior football for 37 years and has coached the Reserves [Development Team] at the Senior Club for the last 2 Seasons. During Wayne's 3rd year of coaching, one of his U11 players said he was chafing: "I said to get the cream in the first aid kit in my car. A couple of minutes later, I turned around and he was hopping up and down as he headed back to the group. I asked him what’s the matter – he’d mistaken the Deep Heat for the cream – enough said." Wayne says it's the best feeling seeing his team smiling and enjoying their time at training and during their games. His aim this year as Coach of the Under 14 Blue team is to help in developing their football as individuals and as a team unit, working for each other and enjoying what they are doing.
